Upper Mai Hydropower Suspends Production for Emergency Tunnel Repairs

Kathmandu: Power generation from the 9.98 MW Upper Mai Hydropower Project, operated by Panchakanya Mai Hydropower Limited, has been suspended.

According to the company, electricity production was halted after excessive water leakage was detected at an expansion joint within the tunnel structure, making repair work necessary. The company stated that generation was stopped from 3:00 PM on May 29.

The company explained that the tunnel must be completely dewatered to carry out the repairs, requiring a temporary shutdown of power generation. A technical team has been mobilized to address the issue, and efforts are underway to complete the maintenance work as quickly as possible and resume production.

Panchakanya Mai Hydropower Limited has apologized to all stakeholders for any inconvenience caused and expressed its commitment to restoring normal operations at the earliest opportunity.
