Kathmandu. The construction process of the 24.41-megawatt ‘Super Inkhu Khola Hydropower Project’ in Solukhumbu has been advanced.
To generate electricity using the water of the Inkhu River, which flows through Mahakulung Rural Municipality–1 and Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality–1, Dordi Khola Hydropower Company Limited has submitted an application to the Department of Electricity Development for the required production permit.
The department has requested written feedback in case the construction of the project is expected to cause significant adverse impacts. Through a public notice, the Department of Electricity Development has urged concerned stakeholders to submit written suggestions within 35 days if any environmental impacts are observed during the construction process.
A 29-meter-long dam will be constructed at an elevation of 2,669 meters above sea level. On the left bank of the dam, water will be collected in a two-bay reservoir that is 60 meters long and 7 meters wide, after passing through the intake and gravel trap.
The collected water will be conveyed to the underground powerhouse through a 1,617-meter main tunnel, a 22.12-meter surge shaft, and a 597-meter penstock pipe to generate electricity.
The project is estimated to produce 143.04 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually.
The generated power will be connected to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Shitalpati substation via a 5-kilometer-long, 132 kV single-circuit transmission line, routed through the switchyard of the Upper Inkhu Khola Hydropower Project.
The project aims to be completed within four years from the start of construction.
