Smart Street Lights to Illuminate 7.9 km Ring Road Section in Lalitpur

Lalitpur: The Lalitpur Metropolitan City has prioritized the installation of smart street lights along the Ring Road section within its jurisdiction. The modern lighting system has been installed along the Ring Road stretch from Gwarko through Satdobato and Ekantakuna towards Kalanki, with the aim of enhancing road aesthetics and reducing nighttime traffic accidents.

The metropolitan office stated that it is carrying out a campaign to install smart lights on both inner and major roads as part of its long-term vision of becoming the “brightest metropolitan city in the country.” Under the second phase of the initiative, a plan to install smart street lights along a 7.9-kilometer section of the Ring Road within Lalitpur is currently being implemented.

For the project, the Lalitpur Metropolitan City has contributed Rs. 1 billion (Rs. 100 million), while the Nepal Electricity Authority has provided Rs. 30 million in support. The metropolitan office said that the smart street lighting project is being implemented with a total investment of Rs. 130 million.

According to Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, the installation of modern lighting is expected to keep the Ring Road area illuminated throughout the night, improve convenience for commuters and drivers, and reduce the risk of accidents.

Under the project, 371 poles measuring 11 meters in height, 195 poles measuring 8 meters, 224 poles measuring 7 meters, and 66 mini-masts measuring 12 meters will be installed. Authorities believe that the entire 7.9-kilometer Ring Road section within the metropolitan area will be effectively illuminated.

The metropolitan city plans to begin operation of the smart lights in the first phase from Balkumari to Satdobato and gradually expand the system to other areas. Mayor Maharjan said that most areas are expected to have operational lighting within the next three months, adding that the project will make a significant contribution to developing Lalitpur into a safer, more organized, and modern city.
