Kathmandu: Investment has been secured for the 9 MW Khimti–Ghwang Small Hydropower Project being developed by Wonders Energy Pvt. Ltd. An agreement was signed on Tuesday, July 28, under which NMB Bank will provide debt financing for the project.
The bank will invest NPR 1.24 billion in the project. The loan agreement was signed by Dinesh Dulal, Head of the Sustainable Energy Banking Department at NMB Bank, on behalf of the bank, and Prakash Chandra Dulal, Managing Director of Wonders Energy Pvt. Ltd., on behalf of the company.
The project’s total estimated cost is NPR 1.80 billion. Of this, NPR 1.24 billion will be financed through bank loans, while the remaining NPR 560 million will be contributed as equity.
According to Managing Director Prakash Chandra Dulal, the company has already secured NPR 350 million in equity and is in the process of raising the remaining approximately NPR 300 million by mid-October 2026.
The project is being constructed on the Khimti–Ghwang Khola, which flows through Ward No. 1 of Jiri Municipality in Dolakha District and Ward No. 1 of Gokulganga Rural Municipality in Ramechhap District. The company plans to complete construction and commence power generation by mid-April 2028.
The company stated that it has already received Cabinet approval, granted on April 28, 2026, for the acquisition of government land and permission to fell trees required for the project.
According to the company, all preliminary works have been completed, including land acquisition, construction power connection, access road development, and the construction of warehouses and residential facilities.
The company further said that contracts for the civil, hydro-mechanical, and electro-mechanical works have already been awarded, and approximately 30 percent of the construction has been completed so far.
According to Dulal, the project, which is being developed within the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, will become the first hydropower project currently under construction in Nepal to be developed in compliance with international social and environmental standards under the Hydro Select Tools criteria.
