KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has restored electricity service in several areas of Nuwakot that were left without power due to flooding in the Bhotekoshi River by arranging alternative transmission routes.
According to the NEA, electricity supply has been resumed through alternative lines from Sindhupalchok to flood-affected areas including Kharanitar, Samudratar, Chaugada, Likhu, Panchakanya, and Bidur.
NEA spokesperson Rajan Dhakal said efforts are underway to energize the Chapali–Devighat 66 kV transmission line at 11 kV from the Chapali Substation, while the Balaju–Trishuli 66 kV line is also being charged at 11 kV. He said the authority is completing the necessary technical work to bring both lines into operation and is working to restore power service by this evening.
For some locations in the Trishuli area, an alternative arrangement has been made to supply electricity through the Salyantar Substation in Dhading.
The NEA stated that it is using alternative power sources to restore service in areas where regular electricity supply has been disrupted due to damage to power infrastructure caused by the floods.
To normalize electricity service as quickly as possible, the authority has mobilized teams of skilled technicians, along with necessary equipment and resources, from Kathmandu and nearby areas to Nuwakot. The teams are prioritizing inspections, repairs, and alternative power supply management in the affected areas.
Earlier, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha directed officials to intensify efforts to immediately restore electricity service in flood-affected areas while also rescuing employees who had lost contact or were stranded due to the disaster.
Following the minister’s directive, a high-level team led by NEA Managing Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha has been deployed to the affected region. The team includes NEA Deputy Managing Director Kiran Kumar Shrestha, Distribution and Customer Service Directorate Chief and spokesperson Rajan Dhakal, NEA Engineering Company Chief Executive Officer Chirantan Bikram Rana, and other senior officials.
The NEA said it is continuously assessing the condition of flood-damaged electricity infrastructure and is prioritizing both the operation of alternative power supply systems where feasible and the repair of damaged structures to restore regular electricity service.
