Kathmandu. The number of electricity tripping incidents and the duration of interruptions have significantly decreased compared to the last fiscal year. According to data from the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, the frequency of power outages (tripping) and the duration of interruptions across all provinces and the center have notably reduced in the fiscal year 2025/26 compared to 2024/25.
The Authority attributes the substantial reduction in tripping issues compared to last year to the strengthening of transmission and distribution lines, substations, and immediate repairs carried out in areas where technical problems arose.
“The data clearly shows that both the number of electricity tripping and the duration of interruptions have decreased every month in the fiscal year 2025/26 compared to 2024/25,” said Hitendra Dev Shakya, Managing Director of the Authority. “The data indicates a significant increase in the reliability of electricity.”
He mentioned that the reduction in both the number of tripping incidents and the duration of interruptions has provided considerable relief to electricity consumers. “The data shows a significant improvement this year compared to the tripping frequency a year ago,” Shakya said. “This is the result of the Authority’s recent efforts, including technical improvements, systemic reforms, and deploying skilled manpower day and night for maintenance improvements, including training.”
He informed that the Authority is continuously working to identify substations with high tripping rates for improvement and to shift loads from those areas. Although the number of tripping incidents and the duration of interruptions have significantly decreased, the Authority hopes that communicating such positive news through the media will send a positive message, as consumers might not have noticed the improvement much, having forgotten the past.
