Kathmandu, October 16, 2026 – The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has instructed distribution centres across the country to remain fully prepared to ensure a reliable, regular and quality electricity supply to consumers during the Dashain festival.
Although industrial and commercial activities decline during Dashain, electricity consumption patterns change in households, religious sites, markets and public areas. Therefore, the Authority has prioritised the safe and reliable operation of the electricity system throughout the festival.
NEA Managing Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha and Rajan Dhakal, chief of the Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, held a virtual meeting on Friday with the chiefs of provincial and provincial division offices and distribution centres, directing them to make all necessary preparations to prevent disruptions to electricity supply during Dashain.
Managing Director Shrestha instructed the offices to keep technical teams on standby so that any power supply disruptions could be addressed through immediate repairs and maintenance, ensuring the prompt restoration of services.
The concerned office chiefs have also been directed to immediately complete any pending inspection and maintenance of transmission lines and distribution systems to minimise potential disruptions to electricity supply.
To ensure that consumer complaints related to electricity supply are addressed promptly during Dashain, the Authority has instructed its offices to ensure that calls received through the ‘No Light’ service are answered and that complaint management is made more effective. Office chiefs have been asked to ensure that technical teams are deployed immediately whenever electricity supply problems arise so that services can be restored as quickly as possible.
The Authority has been continuously monitoring electricity demand and supply while taking necessary precautions to prevent problems in the electricity system. Arrangements have also been made to mobilise the concerned offices and technical teams with the necessary coordination and preparedness to maintain a regular electricity supply throughout the Dashain period.
Similarly, the Authority has urged consumers to use electricity safely during the festive season. It has advised them to inspect the condition of electrical appliances and wiring used at home, avoid low-quality electrical materials, and refrain from attempting to repair electrical leakage or faulty wiring themselves. Such repairs should be carried out only by qualified technicians.
The Authority has urged consumers to contact their nearest distribution centre or the relevant ‘No Light’ service if they encounter electricity supply problems or have complaints.
