NEA Confirms Stable Supply of Meters and Transformers, Minister Calls for Transparency Measures

Kathmandu: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has sought information from the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) regarding the stock and supply management of consumer-related equipment such as meters and transformers. The discussion took place during a meeting of the NEA Board of Directors, where Minister Shrestha consulted with the authority’s management on the matter.

The minister expressed concern following growing complaints from consumers about the difficulty in obtaining essential equipment such as meters and transformers. During the meeting, NEA management informed him that although there had been some challenges in completing procurement procedures, sufficient stock is currently available and additional supplies are in the process of being delivered. The management assured that consumers will no longer face shortages of such equipment.

Minister Shrestha also suggested installing information boards at various NEA projects operating across the country to provide the public with clear information. He recommended that the boards include details such as the project’s total cost, estimated completion timeline, name of the construction company, and the names and contact numbers of the project chief and information officer.

According to Minister Shrestha, such information boards would enhance project transparency and make it easier for the public to access information. The meeting also discussed the progress and challenges of other ongoing projects in the energy sector.
