MoEWRI Forms High-Level Committee with Private Sector Representation

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) has formed a high-level committee with private sector representation to address challenges in energy sector development, policy facilitation and project implementation.

The committee has been formed under the coordination of Sunil Paudel, joint secretary at the MoEWRI. The panel includes Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, joint secretary of the Law and Judgment Implementation Division; the deputy director general of the Department of Electricity Development; and Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, Managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

Representing the private sector, Narendra Ballabh Pant, Abhigya Malla and Anup Acharya from the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), along with Engineer Shirish Pandey, have been appointed as members.

Shalikram Bhandari, senior divisional engineer at the MoEWRI’s Renewable Energy and Carbon Trade Promotion Section, will serve as the committee’s member-secretary.

The committee is expected to help identify and address policy, regulatory and implementation-related obstacles affecting energy sector development and investment.
