Kathmandu: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has launched a special monitoring and rapid response campaign to address the frequent, unplanned power outages—commonly experienced as sudden “blink-and-go” electricity interruptions, excluding scheduled load shedding.
According to the ministry, 24 complaints were received on the first day through its dedicated hotline numbers, 1150 and 1151. Most of the complaints came from the Birgunj area, and the ministry said that all reported issues had been resolved.
The ministry also stated that electricity supply disrupted by a transformer explosion in Kathmandu’s New Road area was promptly restored after emergency repair works. It claimed that all 24 complaints received on the first day were successfully addressed.
Consumers experiencing electricity supply problems have been advised to contact the ministry through the hotline numbers 1150 or 1151. The ministry has also made public the contact details of officials ranging from the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority to provincial focal persons to ensure swift response and resolution of complaints.
The ministry said that staff have been deployed around the clock to operate the hotline service. It also urged consumers to coordinate with their respective local authorities if additional assistance regarding electricity supply is required.
Reaffirming its commitment to prompt grievance handling and rapid problem resolution, the ministry stressed that “Power outages are not normal, and we will not allow them to become normal.”
