9 July, Kathmandu — The Nepal Electricity Authority has released details of the damage sustained by its hydropower projects following the massive flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Tuesday morning.
According to the Authority, the headworks of the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project have been completely destroyed. Likewise, water has entered through the tailrace of the Chilime Hydropower Project, and two gates at the dam site of the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project have been damaged.
Additionally, the Authority reported that a stream altered its course and flooded the Trishuli-3B Hub substation, resulting in damage to the 132 kV bay and other structures.
The Authority further stated that approximately 250 megawatts of electricity have been disconnected from the grid. This includes power from the Rasuwagadhi, Trishuli-3A, Devighat, and Trishuli projects along the Trishuli Corridor, as well as private sector projects such as Upper Mailung and Tadi.
On 8 July, a high-level technical team, led by the Authority’s Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya and Acting Deputy Manager Director of the Transmission Directorate Rajan Dhakal, conducted an inspection of the damaged sites.
