Tanahun. Construction of the major structures, including the underground powerhouse, of the 140-megawatt Tanahun Hydropower Project under construction in Rishing Rural Municipality-1, Tanahun, has reached its final stage. Around 80 percent of the work on the powerhouse, tunnels and installation of related equipment under Package 2 has been completed.
Package 2 is being constructed by China’s Sinohydro Corporation. According to Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari, the excavation work required for the underground structures has been completed, while civil construction of most structures has also been finished.
Excavation and concreting works on major structures, including the underground powerhouse, tailrace tunnel, cable tunnel, surge shaft, intake and draft tube tunnels, and penstock backfill concreting, are almost complete. Bhandari said concrete lining of the main tunnel has also reached its final stage.
Installation and testing of electromechanical equipment required for power generation, including generators, turbines, CCTV systems and transformers, are underway at the underground powerhouse.
Similarly, construction of the powerhouse for environmental flow and the dam operation building is also ongoing. The project said equipment installation and testing are being carried out alongside the construction of civil structures.
Once the structures and equipment under Package 2 are completed, the infrastructure required to operate the project’s power generation system will be ready.
