Beni Hydropower Leads Share Price Gains as Hydropower Stocks See Mixed Trading on NEPSE

KATHMANDU: Hydropower company shares witnessed mixed trading on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday. While share prices of some companies recorded significant gains, others saw declines. In terms of trading volume, Ghalemdi Hydropower led the sector, while Beni Hydropower topped the list in terms of price gains.

According to the available trading data, Beni Hydropower recorded the highest share price increase among hydropower companies, rising by 15 percent. The company’s closing price stood at Rs 617.20. Despite the significant price gain, only 1,338 shares were traded. This highlights the need to distinguish between the percentage increase in share prices and trading volume.

Ghalemdi Leads in Trading Volume

Ghalemdi Hydropower ranked first in terms of trading volume, with 1,064,075 shares traded. The company’s closing price stood at Rs 335, marking an increase of 2.76 percent.

Balefi Hydropower ranked second in trading volume, with 531,201 shares traded. However, despite the large trading volume, its closing price settled at Rs 234.50, down 1.43 percent.

A total of 427,889 shares of Api Power were traded. The company’s closing price stood at Rs 348, down 0.51 percent compared to the previous day. Similarly, 439,417 shares of People’s Hydropower were traded. Its share price fell by 1.28 percent to Rs 363.30.

Green Ventures recorded transactions of 398,988 shares. Its closing price stood at Rs 581.20, marking an increase of 0.54 percent.

Shwetganga and Sanigad Also Record Significant Gains

Following Beni Hydropower, Shwetganga Hydropower and Construction recorded the next-highest price gain. Its share price increased by 4.24 percent to Rs 319.90, with 263,874 shares traded.

Kalinchowk Hydropower’s share price rose by 4.41 percent to Rs 663. A total of 14,642 shares of the company were traded. Yambaling Hydropower also recorded a 4.41 percent increase, with its share price reaching Rs 474. Its trading volume stood at 32,359 shares.

Mid Solu Hydropower’s share price increased by 3.46 percent to Rs 550, with 109,985 shares traded. Bhagawati Hydropower recorded a 3.21 percent increase to Rs 530, with 37,593 shares traded.

Several Companies Also Record Price Declines

Not all hydropower companies recorded gains. ChirKhwa Hydropower witnessed the steepest decline, with its share price falling by 3.14 percent to Rs 493.

The share price of Bhugol Energy Development Company dropped by 2.04 percent to Rs 302.60, while Upper Lohore Khola Hydropower recorded a decline of 1.97 percent to Rs 323.

Barun Hydropower’s share price fell by 1.66 percent, while that of Himalaya Urja Bikas Company declined by 1.46 percent. Balefi Hydropower, Melung Khola Hydropower and Dordi Khola Hydropower also recorded price declines.

Trading Volume and Price Gains Are Not the Same Indicator

The available data highlights the difference between trading activity and price movements among hydropower companies. While Ghalemdi and Balefi recorded high trading volumes, Ghalemdi’s share price increased whereas Balefi’s declined. Similarly, although Beni Hydropower recorded the highest price gain, its trading volume was relatively low.

Therefore, when analysing hydropower stocks, investors need to consider not only how much share prices have increased or decreased but also trading volume, transaction value, the company’s financial condition and the progress of its projects.

This analysis is based on the available trading data, including share prices, percentage changes and trading volumes. The complete ranking by transaction value could not be verified and has therefore not been included in this report.
