KATHMANDU: The 30 MW Khanikhola Hydropower Project in Dolakha has begun trial power generation and started supplying electricity to the national grid.
The project, located in Wards 6 and 7 of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality in Dolakha, has started generating electricity on a trial basis.
Sasha Engineering, the project developer, said the plant is successfully generating electricity. Ishwar Kandel, the plant manager, said commercial operation would begin after the completion of a 15-day trial period.
“Trial generation began on October 4,” he said. “Commercial generation will begin after the 15-day trial period.”
According to Kandel, the project is scheduled to begin commercial operation on October 19.
He added that tests on the vibrations of almost all machines installed for power generation had been successful.
Construction of the project was delayed to some extent after floods on July 9, 2024, damaged the dam site, he said.
Once the Khanikhola Hydropower Project begins commercial operation, it will officially add 30 MW of electricity to the national grid. Khanikhola is a run-of-river hydropower project.
