23-hour power cut in Taplejung headquarters

PHIDIM:

With Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Taplejung office’s decision to shut down the diesel plant, Taplejung headquarters is going to face load shedding of up to 23 hours everyday.

Even for one hour power supply to the headquarters, power has to be cut off to Hangpang and Change VDCs.

Employees at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) warned that Taplejung headquarters would have to face round-the-clock power outage if both the VDCs did not allow power supply.

Earlier, both the VDCs were load shedding-free areas. NEA office is planning to write a letter to both VDCs informing them about the power-cut. “Whether the headquarters will have electricity for an hour or not depends on the decision of the VDCs,” a staff at NEA said.

Ironically, every household at the headquarters is paying Rs 150 per month. Locals of the headquarters today padlocked NEA office putting forth different demands.

The padlock was opened after the NEA management clarified that the diesel plant could not meet the power demand.
